Rome: Discovering the eternal city
I want to go
It was a long time coming, but the time had finally come to fulfill one of my unfinished dreams: to visit the Eternal City, Rome.
The majesty of the Colosseum, the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica, the Circus Maximus or the cobbled streets of Trastevere had captivated us after seeing them in films such as "La dolce Vita" or "Ben-hur", so the idea of a getaway to re-live other eras seemed exciting.
After settling into the Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville, with its wonderful location overlooking the Spanish Steps, we headed for the Colosseum, an architectural marvel that surpassed all expectations. We were breathless as we watched history come alive before our eyes. We could imagine the epic battles and grandeur of ancient Rome as we explored this iconic amphitheater, before continuing our history lesson in the Roman Forum.
We walked among the ruins of ancient temples, triumphal arches and basilicas. The grandeur of ancient Rome was revealed with every step we took. We marvelled at Trajan's Column and couldn't help but imagine what life was like in this city thousands of years ago.
After a succulent breakfast on the quiet terrace of the Hotel de la Ville, it was time to delve into the history of the Vatican, a sacred place full of art and spirituality. St. Peter's Basilica left us speechless with its imposing architecture and the majesty of St. Peter's Square. After climbing the stairs of the Square, we enjoyed panoramic views of the city.
We entered the Vatican Museums, where the impressive art collection left us speechless. The frescoes of the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo was the highlight of the visit. The creation of Adam illustrates one of the new episodes of Genesis and was one of the most fascinating, the detail of each of the depictions and the talent that was undoubtedly evident in Michelangelo's work.
After a day full of history, we decided to relax in a local trattoria to taste the best Italian cuisine. We did the honors to one of their most popular proverbs: "Piatto ricco, mi ci ficco!
Italian gastronomy seduces with authentic flavors and tempting aromas and while it is true that when we think of Italian gastronomy pasta and pizza come to mind it also offers a wide variety of stews, antipasti and dishes full of flavor that receive influences from all corners of the Mediterranean.
Our last stop was at Six Senses Rome, an incredible oasis of wellness in the centre of the Eternal City, recently opened and located in a historic Palazzo.
We enjoyed an incredible session of Biohacking, as well as the extraordinary Roman thermal baths of the Six Senses Rome hotel, which after many hours of walking around the city, left us feeling as good as new to continue enjoying the countless attractions.
After recovering our energy we wanted to enjoy the "dolce far niente", and what better way to put it into practice than ending the day on the NOTOS Rooftop terrace sipping a delicious cocktail with the best views of the city? It's the perfect finishing touch to a fantastic day!
It was time to say goodbye to this eternal city, taking with us unforgettable memories. Every corner of this city breathes history and culture. With the promise of coming back soon, we said goodbye to Rome with the certainty that this experience will be remembered forever. See you next time, Rome!
