The most famous historical sites - Axum, Lalibela, Gondar and Bahir Dar - are part of the historical route not to be missed in Ethiopia. You will discover monasteries, Orthodox churches and obelisks, and the ancient catacombs of the Ethiopian kings of Axum, which was the capital of the empire that reached out to the Red Sea and to Arabia, and was considered one of the four great powers of Ancient history, along with China, Persia and Rome.
A visit to the Erta Ale volcano, in the Danakil region, is a must, as it’s considered the warmest and lowest point in the planet, as well as the impressive sulfur desert of Dallol.
The endless caravans of camels that transport salt from the mines in the Danakil region will impress the most curious travellers. And, for those who enjoy nature and rugged landscapes, a visit to the Semien Mountains National Park is a must.
