Each island offers a different scenery, from mountainous terrain dotted with shield-shaped volcanoes and lava fields, arid areas overgrown with endemic cactus, to beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The Galapagos Islands marine reserve is one of the largest and most biologically diverse in the world.
What really sets the Galapagos apart is its remarkable levels of endemic fauna and flora, more than anywhere else in the world. Nearly 80% of the terrestrial birds and mammals, over 90% of the reptiles, over 30% of the plants and about 20% of the marine life are indigenous to the Galapagos.
