Located on a peninsula on the Dalmatian coast, the "Pearl of the Adriatic" was an important Mediterranean seaport from the 13th century. The old town is almost a museum filled with beautiful monuments - churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains - in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.

After its sad and tragic war in the 1990s, the city has risen from the ashes like a phoenix, with a painstaking restoration process that has allowed it to recover all its former splendour and be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.We can't think of a better plan than visiting one of the most attractive cities in Europe and, at the same time, enjoying the most crystalline waters of the Adriatic.

Hotel Bellevue is a perfect base from which to explore the city. It is an oasis of peace with its own beach tucked away in the bay and only a pleasant 15 minute walk along the coast to the old walled city of Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik is ideal for a short weekend getaway, but the area's attractions do not end in this magical city. It would be a shame to be left with only the great Croatian pearl. Exploring the Peljesac peninsula is one of the region's must-see attractions.

The access along the rugged coastline is worth the visit in itself. We were delighted to reach the village of Ponikve and meet Milos, owner of the family winery of the same name. After visiting his vineyards, some of them among the oldest in the country, we proceeded to taste his excellent wines, as well as his award-winning and exquisite olive oil. A true experience for the gourmets.

We then continued on to the coastal town of Ston, known for cultivating the tastiest oysters in the world. To be able to witness how they are extracted from the sea and taste them on the spot is an enormous privilege and a real treat.

We will definitely be back soon, as we still have to go diving in the Elafiti Islands to discover the coral, caves and wrecks, visit the ancient city of Salona, visit local markets with a private chef and sommelier... We will be back!
